A St. Bonaventure cameraman ended up in a chokehold following the Bonnies winning the A-10 title.
In a photo tweeted by Jeff Eisenband (via Griffin Quinn), a cameraman could be seen being held in a chokehold by a security guard Sunday in the aftermath of the Bonnies defeating VCU and punching a ticket to March Madness. According to The Buffalo News, the cameraman has been identified as Nathan DeSutter, and he’s the digital media director for the Bona athletic department. You can see the absurd photo below.
One of the most bizarre sports photos you will ever see: A security guard at the Atlantic 10 Title Game put a cameraman in a chokehold as he was filming St. Bonaventure’s on-court celebration.

In a video of the Bonnies celebrating, DeSutter can be seen trying to film the team when he’s confronted by the security guard. He continued to try to film the players and was then placed in a headlock.

“We’re aware and we’re looking into it with Dayton,” assistant commissioner of the A-10 Drew Dickerson wrote in an email, according to the same report from The Buffalo News.
Quinn, who took the photo, tweeted that there appeared to be a “miscommunication as to whether or not he was allowed to be on the court for the celebration.”
Yup. It seems like there was some miscommunication as to whether or not he was allowed to be on the court for the celebration. I think he was allowed because he works directly with Bona, but security must’ve been told strictly no media on the court.

I’m all for security and keeping athletes safe, but that guy is clearly media. It’s not even a close call. Not only is he media, but he literally works for St. Bonaventure.
How did this security guard botch this situation so badly?

Also, take a look at the players in the background. They’re clearly confused as all hell as to why DeSutter is being treated like a criminal.
Luckily, he was able to eventually get back to his job, but there’s no excuse for this kind of situation ever unfolding. Somebody screwed up big time and getting physical with a guy half your size is probably the wrong way to handle it.

Props to DeSutter for handling himself in a solid manner while trying to do his job after the Bonies landed in the NCAA Tournament.
