A 14-year-old Florida boy has been charged with murder after the body of a missing 13-year-old girl was found in a wooded area just hours after she was reported missing by her family, police said.

Tristyn Bailey, 13, was found dead Sunday night in a wooded area in the Durbin Crossing community in Florida, St. Johns County Sheriff Rob Hardwick said Monday during a press conference. Police have since taken 14-year-old Aiden Fucci into custody, charged him with second-degree murder, according to Hardwick.

Hardwick said Bailey and Fucci attended the same school but would not confirm whether they were classmates.

Bailey was reported missing Sunday around 10:00 a.m. and was last seen around midnight on Saturday, the sheriff’s office said in a statement. Police initiated a search that was joined by the community. (RELATED: Police Find Human Remains During Search For Missing 18-Year-Old Amish Girl)

Her body was later found — clothed — around 6:00 p.m. by a citizen, according to the sheriff’s office.

“I cannot thank this community enough,” Hardwick said. “We saw moms and families out walking the woodbine in clothes like church clothes yesterday.”

It is unclear how Bailey died and an autopsy is being conducted, according to Hardwick. The suspect could face additional charges as the investigation progresses.
