ANALYSIS: Nobody Trusts Elections. How Do We Fix That?

For the past two presidential elections in the U.S., the majority of voters from the losing party have claimed the election must have been rigged. Politicians from both parties are now seeking to address the falling trust in the U.S. election system with wildly different strategies.

In the wake of former President Donald Trump’s 2016 victory over then-opponent Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Party widely responded with accusations that Trump had stolen the election with the assistance of Russia. Nearly half of Americans believed as late as 2019 that Trump or his campaign colluded with the Russian government, despite Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report detailing otherwise.
