The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is investigating a fatal police shooting that happened Saturday after a person allegedly hijacked a backhoe and flipped over several vehicles.

Video footage captured by a neighbor appears to show an individual in a backhoe flipping over a Vineland police car. Fox 29’s Marcus Espinoza reported the individual hijacked a backhoe.

The incident unfolded around 5:30 a.m., Saturday at the Penn Lincoln Mobile Home Park, according to the attorney general’s office. (RELATED: 20-Year-Old Marine Tragically Dies After ‘Trying To Help Somebody In Need’)

Witnesses told CBS 3 the unidentified individual used a backhoe to flip a police cruiser on its side and severely damaged an ambulance, another police cruiser and a red sedan. Theresa Marie, driver of the sedan, told the outlet she pulled over thinking the driver of the backhoe would go around her but instead slammed right into her car. She sustained minor injuries, according to the report.

Authorities say police fatally shot the unidentified individual and first aid was rendered immediately. The person was pronounced dead at 5:48 a.m., according to the attorney general’s office.

The attorney general’s office said three officers were treated for minor injuries, though it is unclear what led to the injuries.
