A Florida man was arrested Monday morning after attacking a land surveyor with a machete and attempting to steal his personal belongings.

The surveyor reportedly saw the man, identified as 34-year-old Brandon Wright, picking palmetto berries near the Volusia County Fairgrounds before he ran out of a brush nude brandishing a machete and demanding his clothes, wallet and phone, the Volusia Sheriff’s office announced in a Facebook post.

As the victim began to comply, Wright threw the machete and a handful of berries at the surveyor before he retreated back into the woods and fled the scene, the police report continued. The surveyor was not injured, according to the report.

Wright, who was still nude, entered a white Dodge Challenger and drove off, the report states. A responding officer to the scene recalled a similar incident involving Wright in August 2021, the police report said.

Minutes later, the Challenger was detected by a license plate radar in the DeLand area and stopped at a nearby gas station minutes later, the report states. Deputies found Wright doing push ups outside of the entrance to the food mart and walking in the middle of the street, according to The New York Post. The man had previously been convicted of kidnapping/false imprisonment, possession of cocaine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer without violence, according to the Post. He is currently being held without bond, the outlet reported.
