Kanye West’s Donda Academy has abruptly closed amid the fallout of Kanye West’s anti-Semitic commentary.

The school, which West named after his late mother, Donda West in August 2021, was a tuition-based school  K-12 Christian school in Simi Valley California. Parents were not notified of the closure or that their children would not be able to complete the academic year, according to Global News. The school released a statement to Twitter, informing the public about their sudden closure.

“Dear Donda Academy Families. First, we would like to express our gratitude for the community of families and scholars that Donda Academy brought together. However, at the discretion of our Founder, Donda Academy will close for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year effective immediately, Thursday, October 27,” the school wrote to Twitter.

“THERE IS NO SCHOOL TOMORROW,” they reiterated in all caps.

The school then addressed its level of involvement in accomodating the families affected by the unexpected closure.

“Our leadership team will be working diligently to assist all families during this transition, ensuring that every scholar has what they need to succeed in their next community in a prompt and gracious manner.”

“Donda Academy informed the public that they do plan to reopen in the future. We intend to begin afresh in September of 2023, and we are confident that our scholars will continue to advance as the creative innovators, courageous influencer and academic leaders of the next generation,” they wrote. The closure of the school comes on the heels West’s anti-Semitic rants on social media, which led to Twitter and Instagram shuttering his accounts.

A slew of prominent corporations and agencies have cut ties with West as a result of his statements, including Balenciaga, GAP, JP Morgan Chase, and most recently, Adidas, who will no longer produce or sell his Yeezy brand.
