An employee of Beigel’s Bakery in Brooklyn opened a walk-in freezer in the bakery’s warehouse and discovered a colleague dead inside, according to police.
Thirty-three-year-old Mahamadou Dansogo was found at approximately 8:40 a.m. EST at a warehouse on Avenue D in East Flatbush according to the New York Post. Sources with the police department described the walk-in freezer in the warehouse as being similar to a meat locker. “I’m not sure how long you can survive in one of those,” an NYPD source added, according to the NY Post. Authorities believe that Dansogo was in the freezer overnight.

Dansogo, originally from Mali, was the father of five young children, according to ABC7 Eyewitness News A preliminary police investigation indicates that he may have been accidentally locked into the walk-in freezer around 3 a.m., the outlet reported.
An uncle of Dansogo’s told reporters from ABC7 Eyewitness News that he became trapped in the freezer while cleaning it.
Beigel’s Bakery manager David Greenberger gave a statement to the media from outside the facility.
“We are devastated by the loss of our employee in this accident,” Greenberger said, according to ABC7. “The family has been notified and we extended our deepest condolences to them. Grief counselors are on the site to provide counseling and support to the family and to our employees. This is an ongoing situation and we are cooperating with all investigations. We have no further comment at this time.”
