Mexican authorities are investigating the death of an American woman on vacation as a homicide after previously suspecting alcohol poisoning as the cause of death.
The parents of Shanquella Robinson, 25, were told by two of her daughter’s friends that she died in Cabo, Mexico, on Oct. 28 from alcohol poisoning, WBTZ reported. They also told Mexican authorities the same thing. Robinson was found dead at the Fundadores Beach Club in San Joe Del Cabo on Oct. 29, according to the state general attorney’s office of Baja California. At that time, AEI (State Investigations Criminal Agency) agents began an investigation.

Robinson’s death certificate from Mexico noted that she died from a “severe spinal cord injury,” according to Queen City News. A video later surfaced of someone assaulting Robinson inside a hotel room, however WBTV has not yet been “able to verify” when or where the video was taken. If authorities have evidence that leads to an arrest, they have authority to bring Shanquella’s friends back to Mexico to “answer to Mexican law,” the police officer investigating the case told Queen City News.
“It feels good,” Robinson’s mom, Salamondra Robinson, told WBTV. “My stomach doesn’t feel so empty. Feels like we getting somewhere,” she said.
Salamondra Robinson has thanked strangers who have reached out to her family. “I thank them, I thank them. You know, I really do. I really appreciate it,” she said.
