The Los Angeles Rams claimed quarterback Baker Mayfield off waivers Tuesday.
Mayfield requested to be released by the dysfunctional Carolina Panthers on Monday, seeking a new team until the Rams answered the call. According to ESPN Senior NFL Insider, Adam Schefter, the Rams will inherit Mayfield’s $1.35 million on his contract and said that there’s even a chance the former Heisman trophy winner will play Thursday night against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Considering how Mayfield ultimately underachieved with the Cleveland Browns and played poorly with the Panthers during his quick stint there, I imagine this is his last opportunity to prove himself.
It may be foolish believing that Mayfield can revitalize his career with the Rams, but I believe he can.
After the Browns went 26 long years without winning a single playoff game, Mayfield was the main contributor to Cleveland finally getting over the hump and winning a game in the postseason, in 2021. According to ESPN, Mayfield threw three touchdown passes and helped the Browns offense post nearly 50 points against their division rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers, during their Wild Card matchup. I haven’t jumped from Mayfield’s bandwagon just yet because he’s shown glimpses of playing well, and the Rams will keep him from crumbling into pieces. Los Angeles is a respectable franchise, despite suffering poor luck with injuries this year. They seem like the best organization for Mayfield since he entered the league in 2018, and it gives me hope that he will revitalize his career.
