Somebody’s NFL career may very well be over.

Atlanta Falcons practice squad player Cameron Batson and an Atlanta police officer both ended up in the hospital after a physical altercation led to gunfire Dec. 31, according to WSB-TV2 Atlanta. The Falcons later announced Batson had been released from the team, according to ESPN.

Batson was reportedly taking a sobriety test during a DUI traffic stop at around 2 a.m. Following the test, the administering officer determined the 27-year-old had been driving while intoxicated, according to the outlet. Batson allegedly resisted the officer and started fighting back when the officer tried to arrest him. As a result the officer discharged his gun and fired it, WSB-TV2 continued. Police reported no one was shot.

Batson then got back in his vehicle and fled the scene before crashing his car not too far away, according to the outlet. He allegedly got out of the car and continued to flee. Police eventually located and arrested him, WSB-TV2 reported.

The Atlanta Falcons released a statement on the matter, saying they were aware of the incident, according to the outlet.

“We have been made aware of an overnight incident involving Cameron Batson and are currently gathering information from law enforcement agencies. We take this matter seriously and have no further comment at this time.” (RELATED: Washington Commanders Reveal New Mascot Major Tuddy)

Police said the officer was taken to the hospital for a shoulder injury that he suffered during the alleged fight, as well as lacerations and bruises, according to WSB-TV2. Batson’s injuries are unknown.

Batson received charges of aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer when engaged on official duty, aggravated assault, removal of weapon from public official, driving-fleeing to elude police officer and battery, the outlet reported.

“We’re always going to do what we feel is in the best interest of the team,” Falcons coach Arthur Smith told ESPN, reportedly speaking about Batson’s release. Smith declined to provide any additional comment.

What the hell made Cameron Batson think any of this was going to work?

I’m sorry, but what an absolute idiot. So this man not only gets pulled over for driving badly, he then fails a sobriety test, but not just that: he actually tries to fight the police officer and almost gets shot in the process. And then, in even more dumb fashion, he gets in his car thinking he’s actually going to get away, just to end up arrested with even more charges.

This guy’s career in the NFL is over. What a dumbass.
