Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene went after fellow GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida over Gaetz’s opposition to Kevin McCarthy’s speaker of the House bid, escalating her feud with fellow right-wing members of Congress.
The House Steering Committee appointed Greene to the Oversight and Accountability, and Homeland Security committees on Tuesday. The full House voted to remove Greene from her committees in 2021 in response to her confrontation with Parkland school shooting survivor and left-wing activist David Hogg, as well as her promotion of 9/11 conspiracy theories.
“Bravo [Marjorie Taylor Greene]! She’s going to do amazing work for the people on these key committees she has EARNED,” Gaetz tweeted.
Bravo @mtgreenee!

“Rep. MTG of Gerogia is back on committee assignments now that Republicans have retaken the House and the Rep. Gaetz-led revolt has put some steel in McCarthy’s spine.” https://t.co/ectjzpIbq3

“Too bad we’re weeks behind after you spent a week only getting MTV [motion to vacate] from 5 to 1. As the leading MAGA voice in Congress, I look forward to committees,” Greene responded.
Thanks to @SpeakerMcCarthy & Steering for voting me on the committees I requested on the submission form most of us filled out.

While Greene was one of McCarthy’s most prominent backers, Gaetz opposed the Californian on every speaker ballot, voting at various times for Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, Florida Rep. Byron Donalds, and former President Donald Trump. He switched his vote to “present” on the 14th and 15th ballots. (RELATED: Kevin McCarthy Becomes Speaker Of The House On 15th Ballot)
Greene has similarly feuded with Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert, who also opposed McCarthy’s speakership. In a bid to pressure Boebert, Greene noted McCarthy’s extensive financial support for her in a race Boebert won by less than 600 votes. In response, Boebert highlighted Greene’s appearance at a white nationalist conference and suggestion that Jews control the weather.
Greene and Boebert reportedly got in a shouting match in a Capitol bathroom over the speaker vote.
“You were OK taking millions of dollars from McCarthy but you refuse to vote for him for Speaker, Lauren?” Greene asked, according to the Daily Beast.
