An overwhelming majority of American voters are willing to boycott Chinese-manufactured products in response to the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) aggressive tactics and to help the U.S. become less dependent on the foreign adversary, according to a new poll.

Almost 80% say they would stop buying these Chinese-made products to counter the CCP and contribute to domestic independence, according to a Thursday Trafalgar Group/Convention of States Action poll. Only 10% were not willing to do so and 11.4% were unsure. (RELATED: Majority Of Voters Say Any 2024 GOP Candidate Would Handle China Better Than Biden: POLL)

U.S. officials have warned against Chinese-manufactured products and supply chains, and addressed the dangers they pose. U.S. Cyber Command chief and National Security Agency director Gen. Paul Nakasone shed light on the national security threat of American dependence on Chinese made equipment on March 7 at a congressional hearing, but noted it would be difficult to completely divest.

“Previous polling we conducted have repeatedly shown that Americans are taking the threat from the Chinese Communist Government seriously and want President Biden and the U.S. government to take decisive action in containing the threat from China,” Mark Meckler, president of Convention of States Action, said in a statement accompanying the poll. “What is notable in this poll though is that Americans are so concerned about the threat posed by the Chinese government that they are willing to take action themselves to restrict China’s manufacturing monopoly that feeds the CCP beast. We have reached a national moment of awareness and understanding.”

Efforts to combat both the CCP’s aggression and the U.S.’ reliance on China come with bipartisan support, the poll indicates. Republicans, Democrats and independent voters alike are willing to stop buying Chinese-manufactured products to solve these problems at 92.1%, 74.2% and 67.1%, respectively.

The poll comes after TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew testified before Congress, as pressure to ban the Chinese-owned company mounts. Congressmembers pressed Chew on ties the app has to the CCP and the detrimental effects the platform has on children’s mental health.

The poll surveyed 1,081 likely general election voters over the course of March 20 to March 22, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.
