Country star Clay Walker on Tuesday revealed his wife had a miscarriage at the 20-week mark of her pregnancy, and said his family is struggling to cope with the devastating loss.

Walker and his wife, Jessica, reported having a completely normal pregnancy and said the baby showed absolutely no signs of distress along the way. “The whole family had been waiting for the baby and it was really, just a huge blow,” Walker said to People. “So, it was a nightmare and still is for my wife. We were at 20 weeks, and we’d already made it through the toughest part. We’ve had five successful full-term pregnancies and five beautiful children. It’s tough.”

Walker had only revealed his wife’s pregnancy a few weeks before he was forced to face the miscarriage.

“We had her room ready, her clothes bought — everything, and her name, Eleanora Lindsey,” the multi-platinum artist told People.

“We had the 13-week checkup and we saw her doing acrobats,” says Walker. “We were laughing so hard because she was so active. And just everything was so perfect.”

The entire family has been affected by the sudden loss of their unborn baby, and is reeling from the unfortunate turn of events. Walker admitted to feeling helpless in this situation.

“It’s just so, so deep. And you know, as a husband and a father, not being able to do anything about it, not being able to protect my wife’s feelings or the baby, sucks,” he said to People.

The Walker family is trying to find ways to cope with their profound loss.

“We’ve got a great friend group that’s been there for us, you know, a lot of prayer,” Walker said.

He gave a nod to Jessica for all that she has been forced to endure.

“It felt like we got run over by a train and just watching my wife suffer through that,” adds the singer. “I feel for all the women out there who have been through a miscarriage, just because you’re losing a child.”

Walker continues to struggle to understand why and how the seemingly healthy pregnancy took a sudden turn.

“There’s no understanding this for me, and especially for a mom that’s the greatest mom. She just tries to be the best mom and wife that she can be. It’s unfair,” he told People.
