Eddy Hampton Armani, close friend and former confidant of Tina Turner, spoke out about how the star lived in a state of constant fear for her life as a result of her ex-husband, Ike’s, abuse.

Armani said Turner was victimized by Ike well after the couple split. He recalled a number of instances in which people around Turner were also at risk of being at the receiving end of Ike’s violent temper, according to the People interview published Tuesday. Armani said Turner was gripped with fear, as were those who spent time with her on a personal level.

“We were always on high alert and slept on the floor,” Armani told the outlet. “None of us slept in our beds, not even the boys.”

Turner was always looking over her shoulder, according to Armani, unsure of what would happen or when she would be targeted next. There was seemingly little indication of what Ike would do.

“We were all terrified. This man haunted us,” he told the outlet. (RELATED: Tina Turner’s Cause Of Death Revealed)

Armani said Turner’s home was set on fire not once, but twice, during the course of their 20-year friendship.

Armani shared stories from his past experiences with Turner, saying at one point, a shotgun was used to blow out the windows in Turner’s home and car, and that her life was seemingly constantly under threat.

Armani said Turner tried everything to avoid all speaking to or coming into contact with Ike.

“She didn’t want to upset or piss him off,” he said. “The easiest thing set him off.”
