The Oakland branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) wrote a letter Thursday calling for dramatic steps to address crime under the city’s Soros-backed district attorney.

Oakland NAACP president Cynthia Adams and Bishop Bob Jackson, an influential local pastor, called for a state of emergency declaration to address a “public safety crisis” in the city.

“Oakland residents are sick and tired of our public safety crisis that overwhelmingly impacts minority communities. Murders, shootings, violent armed robberies, home invasions, car break-ins, sideshows, and highway shootouts have become a pervasive fixture of life in Oakland. We call on all elected leaders to unite and declare a state of emergency and bring together massive resources to address our public safety crisis,” the letter reads. “Failed leadership, including the movement to defund the police, our District Attorney’s unwillingness to charge and prosecute people who murder and commit life threatening serious crimes, and the proliferation of anti-police rhetoric have created a heyday for Oakland criminals,” the letter adds.

“There is nothing compassionate or progressive about allowing criminal behavior to fester and rob Oakland residents of their basic rights to public safety. It is not racist or unkind to want to be safe from crime. No one should live in fear in our city.”

Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price was elected in 2022 after running a campaign based on “pursuing comprehensive alternatives to incarceration” and “social service interventions that reduce harmful behavior without law enforcement involvement,” according to her platform.

The California Justice & Public Safety PAC backed Price’s failed 2018 campaign. The PAC was created in 2018 to support left-wing district attorneys running in California cities.

The group is an offshoot of the “Safety and Justice” network funded by left-wing billionaire George Soros, who gave the California PAC $3.65 million in 2018, according to InfluenceWatch. The PAC gave Price at least $699,000 for her 2018 Democratic primary campaign, filings show.

A recall campaign has been launched against Price and she held a public safety meeting with concerned residents Thursday night, local outlet KRON4 reported.

Price faced criticism for reducing charges leveled against two suspects accused of killing toddler Jasper Wu in 2021. She also refused to prosecute murder suspect Sergio Morales-Jacquez as an adult after he allegedly killed a newlywed man in September 2022, when the suspect was 17-years-old, according to CBS Bay Area.
