“Yellowstone” star Luke Grimes offered a rare look into the future of the iconic show in an interview published Saturday.

Grimes’ commentary on the show’s future didn’t sound great, but it didn’t sound awful, either. “Here’s the thing with ‘Yellowstone’ and my character: Hope doesn’t happen,” Grimes told People Magazine. “I just learned to take it as it comes, and that’s it.”

As far as fans are aware, the last half of the final season of “Yellowstone” has been on hold since at least early 2023, well before the start of the Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild strikes. And it doesn’t look like much will change thanks to the strikes and ongoing stress with the series’ leading man, Kevin Costner.

Costner is in the middle of a messy divorce, has multiple other projects on his plate, and apparently doesn’t even like his character of John Dutton. Whether he’ll return to finish the show is anyone’s guess. Since it’s the only reason Costner is relevant, he owes it to his fans and the rest of “Yellowstone’s” cast and crew to finish what he started. (RELATED: ‘Yellowstone’ Fans Can Rejoice! “We have not [started filming the second half of season 5] because of the writers strike,” Grimes continued. “”I think we would be if it weren’t for that. But that takes precedence over everything. They got to get that all sorted, and then we’ll be getting after it.”

Let’s hope that Hollywood doesn’t fully cannibalize itself before Grimes, Costner, and the rest of the “Yellowstone” team gets back to filming.
