Fifty-seven people were injured and one person died after a bus rolled over near the Grand Canyon in Arizona on Tuesday.

A coordinated effort was launched as multiple emergency response teams, including Hualapai Emergency Services (HES), GCW Air Rescue Fire, Lake Mohave Ranchos Fire Department, Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire Department, AMR ambulances, and Bullhead Fire Department, rushed to the scene, HES wrote in a press release. Five medical flight agencies were also called upon to provide assistance.

“Had a trip to Grand Canyon planned but our bus had an accident … My travel colleagues and me are safe and unharmed, but still under shock,” Twitter user, King Rasta, who was on the bus, wrote. “Never had something like this happen before, feels extremely strange. Really got lucky, but still…”

Eight of the passengers sustained severe injuries and were airlifted to nearby hospitals for immediate medical attention. The remaining individuals with noncritical injuries were transported by ground to receive further care, according to the press release. “Our group of 3 only got bruises. My bro and me landed on top, friend was on the bottom, but still got super lucky with no big injuries,” King Rasta continued. “Lil bro also activated spider-senses, was the first one out and helped people from the start.”

The Hualapai Nation Police Department, in conjunction with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS), launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, HES wrote.
