Bodycam footage released Wednesday showed the moment a heroic police officer rescued a man from a burning truck on Aug. 8 in Salisbury, North Carolina.

Lt. Corey Brooks of the Salisbury Police Department was in the middle of responding to a separate incident when he watched a tractor-trailer drive into a retaining wall on Interstate-85, according to WBTW. Flames burst from the vehicle as it crashed, but that didn’t stop Brooks from leaping into action.

The footage from his bodycam, shared online by WGN, shows Brooks sprinting toward the fire and opening the cab door of the tractor trailer. You can clearly see the driver sitting upright in his seat, seemingly motionless, as Brooks pulls him out of the cab.

From the windscreen, you can see the orange flames grow brighter as the fire continues to ignite through the engine. Brooks manages to get the driver out just as the cab starts to fill with smoke.

Both men fall through the passenger’s side door and onto the road, as another individual runs up to help drag the driver away from the fire. Within seconds of all individuals being away from the vehicle, it explodes, which is when it looks like Salisbury Fire Department pulled up to the scene. The driver regained consciousness as the fire department arrived, and was able to walk on his own to the ambulance, WBTW noted. He is lucky to be alive.
