The MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) announced the cancelation of their 2023 show in a tweet Thursday as a result of the current state of affairs in Israel.

The MTV EMAs were originally scheduled to take place in Paris on November 5.

“Given the volatility of world events, we have decided not to move forward with the 2023 MTV EMAs out of an abundance of caution for the thousands of employees, crew members, artists, fans, and partners who travel from all corners of the world to bring the show to life,” MTV EMA wrote to their social media account.

The show was expected to attract a packed audience and include appearances by Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Metallica, according to People.

MTV expressed their belief that a night dedicated to glitz, glamor and public gatherings seemed tone deaf amid the current situation in Israel.

“The MTV EMAs are an annual celebration of global music,” they wrote to Twitter.

“As we watch the devastating events in Israel and Gaza continue to unfold, this does not feel like a moment for a global celebration. With thousands of lives already lost, it is a moment of mourning,” they said.

They addressed what the future holds for the highly anticipated awards gala and what they’ve arranged as they adapt to their unexpected hiatus. (RELATED: U2 Pays Tribute To Israelis Killed In Hamas Attacks)

“Voting is continuing and the winning artists will receive their MTV EMA Awards,” they said.

They left fans with a promise to return.

“We look forward to hosting the MTV EMAs again in November of 2024.”
