Matthew Perry revealed he was ready for a serious relationship and wanted to become a father one year before his untimely death, according to People.

Perry, famous for playing Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom “Friends,” opened up to People prior to the release of his memoir in 202 and noted he was ready for the next chapter of his life. He said he was looking forward to finding love and starting a family of his own.

“I think I’d be great. I really do,” Perry said about his thoughts on becoming a dad. “I grew up with a lot of little kids around me, and that’s probably why, but I can’t wait.”

Perry wrote candidly about his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction within the pages of his memoir, “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,” and seemed dedicated to staying clean in order to pursue a more mature lifestyle.

He opened up about what relationships had been like for him in the past and the work he’d done to improve and grow, saying he “had a tremendous amount of fear” when it came to love, but “through a lot of work, I’ve got over that fear. I’m going to learn as I go.”

Perry explained how he overcame his previous issues with relationships.

“The thing that’s changed about me is I have no interest in hanging out with somebody that I don’t know or somebody that I’m not that into,” Perry told People. “The next person I really take seriously is somebody that I’m going to be in love with and not be scared by the things that used to scare me.”
