A woman from Metro Atlanta was surprised to find a charge of $7,112.98 on her credit card for a Subway sandwich, WSB TV reported Monday.

Vera Conner, a regular Subway customer, typically pays $7.50 for her usual order. However, she was shocked when her weekly credit card statement review revealed the charge for her favorite Italian sub, per WSB TV.

Conner was initially confused, so she traced the source of the four digit charge to a mix-up at the point of sale, WSB TV reported. She suspected the touchscreen used for entering her phone number mistakenly registered her input as a tip amount.

“I must have been keying it in the pad, and the screen changed,” Conner told WSB TV.

This error turned her modest meal into a charge that could have funded a trip to Italy.

“I could have gone to Italy and got the sandwich,” Conner quipped, per WSB TV. (RELATED: Subway Sandwich Bread Fails To Meet Legal Definition Of Bread In Ireland)

Conner attempted to receive a refund as soon as she discovered the charge, but she repeatedly hit roadblocks. The Subway store manager was reportedly uncooperative, and her credit card issuer, Bank of America, initially sent a denial letter in response to her dispute. Conner knew such errors are usually identifiable and rectifiable, WSB TV reported.

“This is unbelievable because I feel like everyone that sees it, has to know that it’s a mistake. I’ve worked in retail before. I know how we tally up at the end of the night,” Conner added.

The situation took a turn after the story gained attention on social media. The banking giant already reached out to the Subway franchise and its corporate branch, per WSB TV.

Subway confirmed that a chargeback was being processed as of this writing.
