Actor Charlie Hunnam is being tipped for the lead role in Nicholas Sparks’ next adaptation, an industry insider leaked in December.

Hunnam is set to portray the lead role of Trevor Benson in the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’s best-selling novel “The Return,” one industry insider told his Patreon account followers, according to Coming Soon. The film still has to be written by Tom Dean, who will be translating Sparks’ beautiful story to the screen.

The plot follows Benson, a Navy surgeon with devastating injuries from a tour in Afghanistan, as he returns to his grandfather’s farm in North Carolina. His grandfather mysteriously died some months before, and Benson is determined to find out what happened. And of course, along the way, in true Sparks fashion, love and heartbreak find their way to our leading man.

The former “Sons of Anarchy” star has yet to confirm whether he’ll be taking on the role, but it really would be perfect for him. He’s just come off a stint as the lead actor in “Shantaram,” one of the best television adaptations of a best-selling book, ever. With this in mind, I actually think “The Return” would work better as a series. There’s more than enough storyline, tragedy, mystery, and character development for at least six to ten episodes. And the book is packed with questions and cliffhangers that would make any viewer come back for more.
