Nick and Priyanka Chopra filed a lawsuit in May 2023 stating their $20,000,000 California mansion is virtually inhabitable as a result of a leak that led to mold infestation.
The legal documents indicated the celebrity couple began experiencing issues with their luxury property in April 2020, after the pool and spa began to present a series of issues, according to Page Six. The couple cited concern over “porous waterproofing” that “fostered mold contamination and related issues.” The documents went on to state that “this has resulted in substantial and significant damage along with a failure of consideration which requires that the purchase and sale be rescinded,” according to Page Six.
Chopra and Jonas are also seeking “consequential damages” via their trustee.
The legal filing alleged that after the initial issues were realized, “a water leak appeared at the barbecue area on the deck.” They claimed, “This leak damaged a portion of the interior living area immediately below the deck.” The famous duo claimed the home was “virtually unlivable” as a result of these issues, and noted it was “dangerous from a health perspective to occupy,” according to Page Six.
If the sale of the purchase of the home is not rescinded, Chopra and Jonas’s legal representative claims they “should be reimbursed for all costs of repair, plus compensation for the loss of use and other damages caused by defendants’ conduct.”
The exact cost of the damages has not yet been determined but the legal filing claimed the water damage “will exceed” $1.5 million and went on to note that the “general damages” within the mansion are estimated to be at around $2.5 million, according to Page Six.
The lavish property reportedly boasts seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a chef’s kitchen and a temperature-controlled wine room. It also includes an indoor basketball court, an interior bowling alley and a home theater and entertainment lounge, according to Page Six.
Attorney Fred Fenster, who represents the trustee, issued a statement noting there would be delays with this legal matter, as a result of the various layers of litigation, according to the outlet.
“The trustee filed the lawsuit against the builder, the builder then filed a cross-complaint against sub-contractors, the sub-contractors then filed lawsuits against their people,” he told Page Six.
“It’s like everybody who put a pick or a shovel in the property is going to be involved, and it’s going to be up to the builder to decide and prove who was responsible for the defects,” he said. (RELATED: ‘Stop It’: Nick Jonas Gets Serious After Fans Keep Throwing Things At Him Mid-Concert)
The case is expected to be brought to court in 2025. Chopra, Jonas and their 2-year-old daughter, Malti, do not live at the residence at this time.
