A fan came forward to report that the grave site of late James Bond actor Roger Moore was vandalized, TMZ reported Tuesday.

The fan, who wishes to maintain his anonymity, said he visited the Cimetière de Monaco, an exclusive cemetery in La Colle, Monaco, to pay his respects to the beloved actor, only to find that someone apparently ripped off the unique marker that identified the burial site, according to TMZ. The fan said a large family crest previously marked the grave.

The witness snapped photos of the bare gravestone to prove what he stumbled upon earlier in June, according to photos obtained by TMZ.

The unidentified fan said he was left feeling shocked and deeply upset by the fact that someone would desecrate the grave of such an iconic Hollywood actor, according to TMZ. It is not clear what motive anyone would have to disturb the gravesite, or who was responsible for the heinous act.

Perhaps even more troubling was the fact that nobody seemed to be aware that this had transpired, TMZ reported.

Local police and the Cimetière de Monaco both seemed surprised to discover the news of this disgraceful incident, according to TMZ. (RELATED: REPORT: Aaron Taylor-Johnson ‘Formally Offered’ James Bond Contract)

Moore has long been revered as one of the greats in the James Bond franchise. The iconic actor took over the leading spy role from Sean Connery and went on to star in seven “James Bond” movies. He began his journey with “Live and let Die,” and his last credited James Bond film was “A View to a Kill.”

The famous English actor died at the age of 89 in 2017.
