Boise State’s miracle win in the Fiesta Bowl a few years back set the stage for running back Ian Johnson — who had just scored the game-winning play — to deliver a romantic and emotional proposal to his cheerleader girlfriend. The Broncos’ 43-42 win over Oklahoma State wasn’t the only upset that night, though. After Johnson decided spontaneously to propose that night on the field, he made the mistake of tipping off a Fox News sideline announcer right before a post-game interview. The reporter’s not-so-subtle hand off to Johnson (“I understand you’re proposing now, righto?”) didn’t come close to ruining the moment, but it didn’t help things much, either.
“I’m sure it wouldn’t have been as romantic if we’d lost,” said Boise quarterback Jared Zabransky.
