LONDON (AP) – Airport operator BAA says all flights in and out of Heathrow and Stansted airports are to be suspended because of ash clouds drifting from Iceland’s spewing volcano.

A spokeswoman for the authority said the decision was being made “due to airspace restrictions, in accordance with international regulations.” Flights are to be suspended from 1100GMT on Thursday.

Hundreds of flights across Britain have already been canceled, and airports in Scotland closed.

Heathrow is Europe’s busiest airport, with more than 1,200 flights a day.
