The Pennsylvania  state Supreme Court heard arguments Wednesday in Pittsburgh on the issue of whether supermarkets in the state can continue to sell beer.

“This case is about enabling the sales of beer by someone under the liquor code who is not allowed — Wegmans,” Robert Hoffman, attorney for the Malt Beverage Distributors Association, argued to the court.

The Malt Beverage Distributors Association, an industry trade group that represents 1,300 distributors statewide, is appealing a Commonwealth Court ruling that upheld a Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board decision to allow Wegmans Food Markets Inc. to sell beer in its stores.
