My leg looks even weirder when I’m standing up. And I’m able to take a picture of it standing up because my surgeon took me off the crutches this week. I still need one crutch to walk any sort of distance, but I can get around the house without it. I’m good as long as I’ve got something to fall against.
At first, walking on it was making me nauseous. I think it was because of kinesthesia or proprioception or one of those deals. You have an innate sense of where all your body parts are in relation to each other, and mine is messed up after almost 5 months without walking under my own power. I think that’s what’s going on, anyway. But after a few days, the nausea has mostly passed. Now I just have to deal with little things like the pain and weakness from an injured and atrophied leg. Piece of cake!
I was able to go 80 RPM on the stationary bike yesterday, twice as fast as the week before, and with more resistance. I also did some leg presses with very light weight. And I was able to get to the office and back on one crutch, although I was so tired that I zonked out at 6 last night. Now I’m sort of dazed and stunned. But at least it’s progress.
See you next week?
