Audit finds major flaw in sex offender registry

MONTPELIER, Vt. — A new audit of Vermont’s sex offender internet registry found the Web site replete with errors, and plans to add a new layer of detail are on hold now mistakes are fixed.

State Auditor Tom Salmon said investigators sampled 57 cases pulled from the 1,200 offender listed this spring on the state Web site. Of those, about half contained what he called “significant errors” of fact.

Two of the 57 names were not supposed to be listed on the Web site at all, he said.
