Forsyth County Sheriff Bill Schatzman will not face any charges after he ran a red light, causing a crash involving three cars Tuesday.
Police Capt. Bill Cobb said today that the officer who investigated the incident had the discretion to either give Schatzman a verbal warning, a written warning or a citation.
Cobb said he didn’t know if a verbal warning was given, but that nothing in writing was issued.
The case is now closed, Cobb said.
In his first comments about the incident Wednesday, Schatzman apologized for causing the crash.
“I wasn’t paying enough attention to what I was doing,” he said.
