He can make the trip under his own power!

I haven’t had a chance to catch an entire episode of Conan’s new show, but it’s cool that they’re providing embeddable clips for lazy bloggers. So far, is the show better than his Tonight Show run? That was pretty bad, and I consider myself a Conan fan if not an outright member of “Team Coco.”
I’m currently reading Bill Carter’s The War for Late Night, about the Jay/Conan debacle. It’s an interesting look into the heads of all these guys: Leno, O’Brien, Letterman, Kimmel, Ferguson, Stewart, Colbert, etc. The thing that strikes me, reading the book, is how banal they all are. And I don’t mean that in an entirely bad way. They’re all talented, to varying degrees, at looking into a camera and making you feel like they’re talking directly to you. But they’re not particularly interesting or insightful off-camera, nor are all the executives and producers and such behind the scenes. They’re all making it up as they go along, justifying their crappy decisions to themselves, and trying to make the best of it. Just like the rest of us.
Except, y’know, with lots and lots more money.
