During a Romney conference call today, top campaign surrogate and former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu created buzz when he said, “I wish this president would learn how to be an American.”

LISTEN:

The statement was in response to President Obama’s controversial statement that, “If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that.”

“The men and women all over America who have worked hard to build these businesses,” Sununu said, “is how our economy became the envy of the world. It is the American way. And I wish this president would learn how to be an American.”

Sununu later clarified, noting that his comments were regarding the economy: “The president has to learn the American formula for creating business,” he said.
