Christie To Reporter Questioning ‘Snowmageddon’ Bust: ‘We Were Listening To All Of You’
One of the biggest mistakes a mayor or governor can make is to be unprepared for a storm. Say what you will about New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, but this is a part of the job he has always embraced. And yesterday, when reports indicated a crippling snow was imminent, he instituted a travel ban.
But what happens when the prophesied “snowmageddon” doesn’t live up to the hype, but everything is already closed? How do you respond to the critics? Christie was asked about that by a TV reporter this morning. His response? “Well, my response would be, we were listening to all of you.”
“You all were on TV, you know, practically 24 hours talking about this based on what you were being told, he continued. “And we acting based on what we were being told. Fortunately, for our state and our region, they were wrong. And so now we can get our lives back to normal. But when it comes [to] protecting human life. … I’m always going to err on the side of caution.”
Without getting too defensive, Christie pretty effectively disarmed the question.
