President Obama has picked a new communications director: It’s State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki.
Jennifer Palmieri is out, leaving the White House to work for presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton.
The AP reported the news this morning.
This isn’t Psaki’s first stint at the White House. She was Obama’s traveling press secretary for his 2008 campaign. She became his deputy communications director in 2009. During the president’s 2012 reelection campaign, she once again worked in his press shop.
Insiders believed she would follow in White House Press Secretary Jay Carney‘s footsteps, but the job went to Josh Earnest.
Psaki gets a lot of sh*t in the conservative media. This week, National Review referred to her and her deputy Marie Harf (who went on MSNBC’s “Hardball” with some funny ideas about ISIS that even Chris Matthews couldn’t handle) as “Lucy and Ethel,” and remarked that the women think Legally Blonde was a documentary. The story called her a sycophant, citing this quote that made the White House press corps laugh in her face: “The president doesn’t give himself enough credit for what he’s done around the world.”
Breitbart News referred to the duo as “clueless” and “hapless.” And Fox News’ Megyn Kelly recently put her through a meat grinder over the withdrawal of Marines from the U.S. embassy in Yemen. She even gets skewered by the government-run Russia Today. See this slideshow of her “most embarrassing failings.”
Please note: Psaki swam the backstroke for the team at William & Mary.
