Vice President Joe Biden said Monday that the late Democratic Sen. Ted Kennedy was an “anchor” for many senators’ personal lives.
Biden and President Obama spoke at the opening of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute in Boston, where Biden made the “anchor” remark. The vice president was seemingly unaware of the implications, considering that Kennedy failed to provide an anchor to save Mary Jo Kopechne before she drowned in Chappaquiddick after Kennedy drove her into the ocean and fled the scene.
