A bipartisan agreement has been reached that allows Congress to vote on any deal over Iran’s nuclear capabilities, according to the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee today.
According to Politico, “We have reached a bipartisan agreement that keeps the congressional review process absolutely intact, full of integrity,” Republican Sen. Bob Corker said in an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

Under the agreement, an initial 60-day review period of a final nuclear agreement was in effect cut in half, to 30 days. But the review period would also include the maximum 12 days the president would have to decide whether to accept or veto a resolution of disapproval, should Congress take that vote. It would also include a maximum of 10 days Congress would have to override the veto.
Congress’ agreement also places stipulations on Iran’s support of terrorism, saying the president “would have to certify every 90 days that Iran no longer was supporting terrorism against Americans at home or abroad. If he could not, economic sanctions would be reimposed,” writes the NYT.
Congressional leaders are seeking to reassure Americans Iran’s nuclear capabilities are halted.
“I want us to have, by the way, a successfully negotiated agreement with Iran,” Corker added, “but obviously, you know, our partner—quote, quote, quote—Russia, certainly is making this very, very difficult, as they have in other parts of the world.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin lifted a ban on delivering missile systems to Iran Monday.
Corker also addressed allegations he worked with officials on the measure, saying “I can tell you nothing could be further from the truth. I’ve had no conversations about the substance of this bill with any principal, whether it be the president, Secretary Kerry or others.”
The committee will vote on the bill at 2:15 p.m. today, and it is expected to pass.
