It’s that time of the year folks.
Summer has officially arrived, and we at The Daily Caller know the best way to beat the heat is by grabbing a nice cold one and playing a little co-ed softball.
Last year, we fell short of our goal of bringing home the “DC Think Tank And Media Softball League” title, but based on the team’s performance in the first game of the 2015 season, it’s a safe bet we’ll be hoisting a trophy come season’s end.
On Wednesday, TheDC squared off against the Urban Institute, a “leading liberal think tank.” Despite playing a man-down — we only had two of three ladies required and were therefore forced to take an extra out after every ninth batter — TheDC put forth an effort that can only be described as a total bloodbath.
Led by Sales Associate/Team Captain Jake Berube, TheDC’s offense exploded for 11 runs — and roughly 36 beers — across 7 innings, sending a clear statement to the rest of the league in the process:
Reporter Patrick Howley played a stellar second base and led-off for TheDC.
Executive Editor Vince Coglianese allowed only 3 runs in 7 innings on the bump.
Media Reporter/former college pitcher Al Weaver showed that not all pitchers are worthless at the dish.
Multimedia Producer Grae Stafford picked up where he left off last season (swinging a hot bat)…
… and kindly reminded the other team, “this is MY plate Kemosabe!”
Captain Jake manned the hot corner and put a ball into orbit in the 2nd…
… right after yours truly picked up his first of many career dingers with TheDC.
THAT, boys and girls, is what we call “getting fully extended.”
Check back next week as we look to extend our winning streak to 2 games.
PS — I’m fully aware there are no pictures of us playing defense. As I previously stated, we fielded a depleted squad on Wednesday, precluding Intern Anna from snapping pictures while we were in the field.
PPS — The score should’ve been 14-3, but an unnamed intern — *cough* Mike *cough* — called what would’ve been Captain Jake’s 2nd tank of the day, a foul ball.
PPPS — Magnum
