Kansas City Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar is one of the slickest fielders in the game.
Yet — as I’ve said in the past — baseball is a fickle mistress, and even the sure-handed-est defenders can’t make every play, a fact Escobar learned the hard way during the Royals 8-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday.
Though he’s leading AL shortstops in All-Star voting, Escobar looked far from it when a ground ball took a bad hop right into his nethers.

Tough break, homie. That’s why you don’t sit back on your heels.
