Tom Brady clarified his stance on his relationship with Donald Trump, saying they are friends but that his comments that he allegedly endorsed Trump were blown out of proportion.

According to ABC News Tom Brady said, “It’s just a different world than when I started in professional football. Even an off-handed comment like that, like you said, that people may run with. And I understand why people do run with it because you get the clicks and that type of stuff. It’s just people doing their job. A comment like that, I try to have fun with certain things.”

Brady added that he doesn’t follow politics too closely saying, “One way or another, it’s so far away from when the election will be. Whatever I vote is going to be my own personal choice based on how I feel. I don’t even know what the issues are. I haven’t paid attention to politics in a long time. It’s actually not something that I really even enjoy. It’s way off my radar.”

Brady did acknowledge that he and Trump are friends.

Brady had previously said he thought “it’d be great” when asked if Trump should become president. (RELATED: Tom Brady: ‘I Hope’ Trump Wins The Election)

Brady was also spotted with a Trump “Make America Great Again” hat in his locker, which is what spurred rumors that Brady might support a Trump presidency. (RELATED: Tom Brady Wants To Make America Great Again)

Trump and Brady have a long history that includes many rounds of golf, and Trump was even a big supporter of Brady during the “Deflategate” saga.

It’s unclear if Brady wants to “Make America Great Again,” but he has the Patriots off to a 3-0 start.
