Former top defense official Jed Babbin mocked Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Fox Business Wednesday, saying Zuckerberg’s weak approach to fighting the Islamic State is popular “among 12-year-old girls.”
Zuckerberg addressed the recent spate of terror attacks in a Facebook post Sunday, where he called for a “world where understanding and empathy can spread faster than hate, and where every single person in every country feels connected and cared for and loved.”
For Zuckerberg, love is the “only sustainable way to fight back against those who seek to divide us.”
Zuckerberg’s statement came shortly after the devastating attack by Islamic extremists against Christians in Lahore, Pakistan, which killed 70 people and injured 300 others.
Babbin, former deputy undersecretary of defense for former President George H. W. Bush, pilloried Zuckerberg’s analysis as patently ridiculous.
“I can’t do anything but laugh,” Babbin said on Fox Business.
“This is a very common position among 12-year-old girls,” Babbin added.
Commenting on the brutal attacks in Brussels, which left 35 people dead and injured over 300 other innocent bystanders, Babbin said Belgium — and the rest of Europe — is “getting what they’re not prepared for. I won’t say they deserve it because no one does.”
“The real point here is … they can’t force these people to assimilate. The Muslim populations … are coming in with the identity that they want keep. They do not want to have an assimilation because they think that to assimilate will threaten their religion.”
“The deep, deep ideology that is Islam is a problem for these nations,” Babbin said.
In an op-ed for the American Spectator published Monday, Babbin argued that politically correct methods of counterterrorism are responsible for the spike in terror attacks hitting Europe and the rest of the world.
First, intelligence sharing among European allies is abysmally poor to non-existent. Second, the Belgians were far too squeamish to use enhanced interrogation techniques on Saleh Abdeslam, a key actor in the Paris attacks, once they had captured him after a four-month search. Abdeslam refused to talk, Belgian authorities refused to try and question him and the attacks in Brussels occurred Tuesday without a hitch.
“What is the root cause of this politically correct cowardice? For that’s what it is,” Babbin wrote. “You can call it what you’d like, but the fact is that our government — and those of our supposedly-strong allies in Europe — are too fearful of offending Muslims to do what is necessary.”
