Donald Trump is leading his closest Republican opponent by 17 points in Pennsylvania, according to a poll released Thursday.

Trump leads with 44 percent, followed by Texas Sen. [crscore]Ted Cruz[/crscore] with 28 percent, and Ohio Gov. John Kasich is in third with 23 percent in the Monmouth University poll.

Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University polling institute, said, “It looks like Trump should be able to bank the 17 statewide delegates in Pennsylvania. The real question is how the directly elected district delegates will vote at the convention in July.”

Pennsylvania has a total of 71 delegates, 17 of which are awarded on a statewide basis to the winner of the primary. The other 54 delegates are elected at the congressional level and remain unbound to any candidate going into the July Republican National Convention. Pennsylvania holds its primary on April 26.

This poll of 303 likely voters was conducted over the phone between April 10 and 12. It has a margin of error of 5.6 percent.
