A Republican National Committee officer is planning to propose changing the rules that govern its convention in Cleveland, giving more power to the delegates instead of the presiding officer House Speaker [crscore]Paul Ryan[/crscore].
Solomon Yue, an RNC officer and Rules Committee member from Oregon, is expected to present the proposal at the RNC quarterly meeting next week in Florida, Politico reports. It would throw out the old convention rules altogether, and the new rules would closely parallel the rules of the U.S. House of Representatives, along with Roberts Rules of Order, a structure often used at various hierarchical meetings.
Yue told Politico that the proposal would provide more control to delegates and add more transparency to what could become the first contested convention in decades.
An RNC member told Politico that the proposal would make it harder for a politician other than Donald Trump or [crscore]Ted Cruz[/crscore] to become the nominee.
“We should operate in total political transparency,” Yue said.
