A man reportedly armed with a weapon hijacked a Metrobus in Washington, D.C., Tuesday morning, critically hitting a pedestrian who died from their injuries.
Police said the bus was hijacked near Minnesota Avenue and Sheriff Road in Northwest D.C. Police reportedly found the Metrobus crashed near a gas station on Minnesota Avenue, reports NBC4. Authorities took one suspect into custody.
At least one man entered the bus, threatened the driver with a weapon described as needle nose pliers, and took the wheel, driving through a crosswalk and fatally striking a pedestrian, reports Fox 5. The driver suffered a back injury during the hijacking.
“It’s a bizarre incident,” D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier told NBC4. “The whole incident occurred in less than three minutes.”
The bus reportedly caused several accidents before coming to a stop.
