Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders will stay in the Democratic presidential race but showed signs of unity saying he will work with Hillary Clinton to defeat Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump.
“Needless to say I am going to do everything in my power and I am going to work as hard as I can to make sure Donald Trump does not become president of the United States,” Sanders said at the White House after meeting with President Barack Obama. The Vermont senator added that Trump has made “bigotry and racism the cornerstone of his campaign.”
“I spoke briefly to Secretary Clinton on Tuesday night and I congratulated her on her very strong campaign. I look forward to meeting with her in the near future to see how we can work together to defeat Donald Trump and to create a government that represents all of us and not just the one percent,” Sanders added.
The Vermont senator also said that he will stay in the race for next week’s D.C primary and that he would take the “issues” to the convention.
