Another Democratic challenger to Florida’s Sen. Marco Rubio has found himself in the middle of a massive scandal. Democrat Alan Grayson allegedly abused his ex wife for decades during their marriage, Lolita Grayson told Politico in an email Monday.
“I want the people to know my story so they know what kind of man Alan Grayson really is,” Ms. Grayson told Politico in the email. The email included police reports and official statements made by multiple parties that reveal a long history of physical abuse, despite the fact that no charges were ever filed.
“I requested the medical records and police records so people could read what doctors and police officers wrote,” she wrote. “I read many of these records for the first time. These are very painful memories and horrible experiences.”
Police were called twice to the family’s Virginia home, and twice to the family’s home in Florida. Each time, Lolita Grayson called the police on Mr. Grayson to report abuse. The first call came in 1994, two years after the two were married. In that statement, Lolita Grayson told police that Alan beat her daily.
In the 2015 report, Ms. Grayson told police that the beatings had only happened “four to five times.” In that report, Ms. Grayson reported that Alan Grayson yelled, “I’ll kill you bitch!” before hitting Ms. Grayson in the back of the head with a book. Police offered to remove her from the home for her safety, but she declined.
“Lolita is a disturbed woman. She has made one false allegation after another. Her own daughter refutes her,” the Grayson attorney told Politico. Lolita’s daughter Skye issued a statement during the brutal divorce trial asserting she didn’t want to be used as a political pawn. There is also a police report for Skye Grayson, in which police came to the house to investigate a claim that Skye was abusing her mother.
Alan Grayson attempted to force his wife to sign an apology letter during the proceedings. “He did not attack me then, or on any other occasion,” the letter read. The letter adds that Lolita Grayson falsely filed police reports, and also attacked Alan Grayson, instead of being attacked like she claims. Lolita Grayson refused to sign the letter.
This news comes weeks after prominent Democratic candidate Patrick Murphy experienced a massive scandal of his own. Murphy claimed to be an accountant and small business owner, both claims were proven false by the Miami CBS affiliate.
