A video of a wind turbine in India exploding and bursting into flames surfaced on the news site Opposing Views Monday, illustrating the potential dangers of green energy.

The video shows a pair of wind turbines in India catching on fire due to a technical fault while running at high speed. After roughly two minutes of burning, one of the the turbines explodes, hurling one of its blades to the ground before its safety system apparently activates, slowing the turbine down.

The video was uploaded by the channel 4ze Technology.

Wind turbines have a long history of exploding during particularly high winds and other unusual weather.

Despite heavy subsidies, the unreliable nature of wind power has slowed its adoption. Wind power provided a mere 4.7 percent of all electricity generated in America, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

India is increasingly skeptical of green energy, but nearby China is abandoning it all together. China’s government announced last month that the country will shut down the production of new wind turbines in five provinces, as they cause serious damage to the electrical grid.

China specifically shut down construction in the windiest regions of the country because roughly 26 percent of the country’s wind power was wasted in 2016. Wasted wind power is incredibly problematic, because it damages the power grid and can potentially cause massive blackouts.
