Sarah Jessica Parker blasted the company that manufactures EpiPens after it raised the price of the drug by nearly 500 percent over the last seven years.
The actress, who is a paid spokesman for the company Mylan, said she was ending her relationship with the company because of its sharp price hike.
“I was recently involved in an initiative to raise awareness for anaphylaxis,” Parker wrote on Instagram Thursday. “It’s a cause deeply important to me because of my son’s life-threatening peanut allergy. The epinephrine auto-injector is a vital part of our family’s healthcare, as it is for the many who are at risk.”
“I recently learned that the price of the Epi-Pen has been systematically raised by Mylan to a point that renders the medication cost-prohibitive for countless people. I’m left disappointed, deeply saddened and deeply concerned with Mylan’s actions.”
“I do not condone this decision and I have ended my relationship with Mylan as a direct result of it.”
There is no generic equivalent and no brand-name competitor for the EpiPen.
