What began as a search for a missing person uncovered what sounds like a scene from the film, “Weekend at Bernies.”

Pennsylvania State Police say a trio of killers fatally strangled 21-year-old Joshua Rose with jumper cables, dressed him up with a hat and sunglasses to appear alive and drove the corpse around in a truck Aug. 25.

The perpetrators allegedly stopped for gas prior to dumping the body in a wooded area near train tracks in Hop Bottom, Penn., The New York Post reports.

Investigators found the body four days later on Aug. 29, Pennsylvania State Tpr. Conny Devens told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Police believe that Rose, prior to his death, may have been overdosing on drugs while the vehicle was moving down a highway. Rather than getting him help, the three suspects allegedly decided to strangle him.

“Bottom line is, they drove right past the hospital and they continued north on Interstate 81 and why they exactly did that at this point we’re not really sure,”  Prushinski told reporters.

The suspects are Preston Layfield, Amanda Wayda and Tyler Mirabelli, the latter being the driver. Each of them are in jail for aggravated assault and conspiracy, but police say more serious charges are likely to come from the district attorney’s office.

Rose’s autopsy is complete, but Devens said the they are still waiting on results from the toxicology report to find out which drugs Rose had allegedly taken.
