At the annual gala of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Thursday, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton told the attendees that her immigration reform plan “will include a pathway to citizenship.”
The former Secretary of State gave her speech on the first day of “Hispanic Heritage Month,” telling the audience that she, “will send a comprehensive immigration reform bill to the Congress to keep families together,” if elected president. President Barack Obama also attended the fancy get-together and when addressing the crowd, uttered the words, “Si se puede,” or, “Yes we can,” in Spanish.
Clinton slammed her opponent, GOP nominee Donald Trump, for refusing to directly state that Obama was born in Hawaii. “He was asked one more time: where was President Obama born? And he still wouldn’t say Hawaii.” Obama got in on the discourse surrounding his birth certificate. “If we’re going to really fix the [immigration] system, we need to oppose the braggarts, fakers, and promises to raise up walls. We need a comprehensive solution that works for our families, businesses, that helps to improve our economy,” Obama said.
Aside from speaking about the importance of immigration reform, Clinton also remarked that, “I personally think a taco truck on every corner sounds absolutely delicious.” At one point in the evening shortly after mentioning that household incomes are up, an attendee said, “Thanks Obama!” to which the president also replied, “Thanks Obama!”
