“Vice President-elect Pence we welcome you and we truly thank you for joining us here at Hamilton the musical. We really do. We, sir, we are a diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that this new administration will not protect us,” Dixon stated as the audience cheered.
He later said, “I would truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values on behalf of all of us—all of us.”
According to New York Times reporter Patrick Healy, director Lin Manuel Miranda, producer Jeffrey Seller and the cast wrote the statement after learning Pence was attending.
President-elect Donald Trump hit back at the cast of Hamilton and tweeted Saturday morning:
Our wonderful future V.P. Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theater by the cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing. This should not happen!
